1958-66 Impala - Tilt - Column Shift

This retrofit column is designed to fit your 1958-67 Impala and does NOT require modification to your original vehicle to install. Simply remove your old column, saving your original under-dash mount and floor mount. Using an ididit installation kit, install your new steering column in place of the old. These columns come with a neutral safety switch (shift indicator not included). A new aluminum dash bezel is included with the 1963-64 column; however, all the other columns will match the dash perfectly using the original bezel. A wiring adapter is included with the 1967 column. The shift pattern on the column allows you to use either a 3- or 4-speed automatic transmission (except early Powerglides, as they have a reverse pattern transmission). A shift linkage (new or original) is required for installation and will attach to the lower shift arm provided on the column. Add an aftermarket wheel (using an adapter) or original wheel but keep in mind that an aftermarket wheel may push the wheel closer to the driver and the original wheel will increase the overall length of the column towards the driver.

Upgrade to a modern 605 power steering system. Get rid of that leaky control valve and hydrulic cylinder. Eliminate loose, sloppy steering. All the power is in the 605 gearbox. This conversion can be done to 58-64 full size with 283, 327, 348, and 409 engines. Also with air conditioning.

The 605 gearbox to frame bracket is made out of steel. The lower steering shaft (column to gear box) will need to be shortened, most cars need 18-1/2". Clean all threads with a tap and use locktite.

The 605 gearbox and pump was used in mid-size Chevrolet 1978-79 with flare fitting and 1980-84 with O-ring fitting.
